What is the difference between hard and soft power?

1. What is hard power and what is soft power? How are they different?

2. Give two historical examples of hard power and two historical examples of soft power.

Please be very clear. I am really confused so use very simple terms. Thanks
Just to be clear this is not for homework. I am thinking about entering our political debate club and I want to familiarize myself with some political vocabulary as well as some past examples. I thought this would be the perfect place to start a discussion but if you believe this should be in homework help then just don’t answer. No need to be rude, thanks!

Hard power would be blowing up a country.

Soft power would be manipulating that country, without force (for example, figuring out how to mess up their economy, and thus causing their country to collapse).

Hard power is the power used by terrorists.
Soft power is the power used by hunger-strikers!!!
